Got a check or email from Angeion Group? Here's what it is.
Angeion Group, LLC is a legitimate, court-appointed settlement administrator — not a scam and not the company being sued. If its name is on a check, email, or postcard you received, a court most likely included you in a class action settlement.
Angeion Group is a Philadelphia-based class action administration firm. Courts appoint it to notify class members, run settlement websites, review claims, and distribute payments. It currently administers several of the biggest open consumer settlements, including the Amazon delayed refunds and RealPage rent pricing cases.
Its corporate site is www.angeiongroup.com. Individual settlements usually run on their own case-specific website, which is named on the notice itself.
How to tell a real Angeion Group notice from a fake
- The settlement website named on an Angeion notice lists the court, the case number, and Angeion's mailing address.
- Angeion's own site at angeiongroup.com describes the firm; the case site is always separate and named in the notice.
- Search the exact settlement name plus the word “settlement”. A real case has an official website that names the court, the case number, and the administrator.
- Check the administrator's own site for a list of the cases it is running, and confirm your settlement is on it.
- Call the toll-free number printed on the notice. A real administrator answers questions about the case for free.
- Filing a claim is always free. Anyone who asks you to pay to file, or to pay a fee to release your payment, is not the administrator.
What a real settlement administrator never asks for
- A fee to file a claim or to release a payment
- Your full Social Security number by email or text (a claim form on the official site may ask for identifying details, but never an unsolicited email)
- Your online banking username or password
- Gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency
