Editorial policy

OwedList publishes facts about real money and real legal cases, so the bar is higher than for most websites. This page says exactly how we work.

Where our facts come from

  • Every settlement is verified against the official settlement website run by the court-appointed administrator, and where useful, the court docket itself. We link to those sources on each page.
  • We never copy another aggregator. If we can't confirm a fact at the source, the page says so — an unconfirmed claim site is marked “official site not yet confirmed”, never guessed.
  • Every settlement page shows the date we last verified it, and a dated log of every change we make as the case moves from claims to payout.

How we talk about money

  • Every payout figure is labeled an estimate. Most settlements split a fixed fund among everyone who files, so no one can promise an amount — and we don't.
  • Filing a claim is always free, and every page says so.

What we are and aren't

  • OwedList is an independent information service. We are not a law firm, we do not give legal advice, we never file claims for you, and we are not affiliated with any settlement administrator or defendant.
  • We take no money from law firms, claim-filing services, or settlement administrators, and no settlement can pay to be listed. Our only revenue is the OwedList membership.
  • We never ask for your Social Security number, bank login, or payment card to show you settlements.

Who does the work

OwedList verifies every settlement before it is published and re-checks it at each stage change. Corrections are made on the page itself with a dated entry in its updates log. Spotted something wrong? Email hello@owedlist.com and we'll check it within two business days.
